Our Story
THE BRIDE
Alex Padron
Alex and I met at Columbia University where we both worked at the campus gym. Alex was a student manager, while I was stuck behind the scenes washing and folding towels. I remember thinking that he was super confident and really funny, and we became friends while cleaning gym equipment and putting up windscreens.
We bonded while eating chicken over rice and watching Deadwood, and there hasn't been a day that I haven't laughed with Alex by my side. It was only a matter of time before I fell for him, which I told him on the 4th of July. I'd like to say I said "I Love You" under a sky full of fireworks, but I totally whimped out on that big moment. Instead I worked up the courage to tell him later that night after watching Wall-E... nothing like using dystopian robot love for inspiration. And then in true New York City fashion, Wall-E's pet cockroach came to life on our walls and Alex taught me how to never let a roach get away. It must be true love!
THE GROOM
Alex Padron
Who would have thought that the Dodge Blue Polo would lead to a bright future? We both met at our campus gym, and became friends bonding over our love for both tzatziki sauce and Steve Figueroa. After a pick-6 during a pre-super bowl football game, I became quite impressed with Alex's athletic prowess. Shortly after, she intercepted my heart. Hopefully she never Gronk spikes it.
We prospered living together in a small one bedroom apartment in NYC. We didn't murder each other driving across the country through 120 degree southern heat. And we still love to talk to each other every day, despite living in a small studio with the tubbiest cat west of the Mississippi. It must be true love!
How it started
We first met at the Dodge Fitness Center at Columbia University. A gym at a highly academic institution tends to be an unusual place (think people working out in a polo & jeans OR dreadlocks and bare feet), and we bonded over all the crazy experiences at our underground gym.
Our First Date
Our first date took place at the Chipotle on 110th street, where we celebrated Padron's birthday over burrito bowls. Now on February 14th, we celebrate a Birthday, our Anniversary, and Valentine's Day!
We Fall in Love!
After we both graduated from Columbia University, we spent the summer together in NYC. It was full of BBQ & pool in Brooklyn, beer tasting in Vermont, and movie nights in Inwood. We adopted our daughter, the fat & fuzzy Lady Pounce.
Moving to California
We packed up the car and drove from New York City to Los Angeles. We knew we were meant to be when we actually enjoyed being trapped in a car together. We traversed 14 states together... we golfed in Florida, ate alligator in Louisiana, and sweated in Texas.
The Proposal
We planned a wonderful vacation in Maui, where we hiked to a waterfall, swam with sea turtles, and ate a whole lot of fish. Our proposal took place on Baby Beach at sunset... Alex got down on one knee, quoted When Harry Met Sally, and the rest was history. We celebrated after with a couple of Mai Tais and more fish.
